Plan a Super Day for your Super Mom!!!

How do you plan a Super Day for your Super Mom?

We have some easy ideas as seen on Arizona Midday!

Of course I had to show off my Family!  I love this image by the talented Annie Randall Photography!

Camelback Flowershop is giving all Arizona Midday Viewers $10 off  when you let them know you saw them on Arizona Midday.  Call them for details!

Why not have mom relax in bed with some of her Favorite Items?

Have a tray with a Magazine, Juice or Mimosa, Coffee or Tea, candle and something delicious!

A gift sure to tug on Mom’s Heartstrings is something sentimental.  Grab a photo of you and mom and write a note to her!  It is simple but heartfelt!  You know you will always be her baby!

We know Mom’s are always on the go- why not give the busy mom in your life a way to keep all the paper, artwork and other treasures organized.  This is one of my go to gifts for new moms.  Label a group of folders with Pre- K all the way to 12th Grade.  Place them in a cute “bankers box” or file box and they will always have a spot for the many keepsakes they receive.

End the day with something that Mom does not have to bake!  We love the new location of Pie Snob in Arcadia.  Drop in for a bevy of flavors sure to please mom and the rest of the family!

Enjoy these Free Printables to personalize with your kids!  Great for a Mom, Grandmother or Aunt!

At the end of the day, any Mom is grateful for an “I love you and appreciate you” and a hug.  That makes it all worthwhile.   Hugs to my #momsquad

Tips and Tricks to have an EGGcelent Easter!

Candy, scavenger hunts, brunches galore, and the beginning of Spring are just a few of the fabulous things we love about Easter.  If you are like me you are running around this time of year.  I have pulled together some fun and EASY ideas so you are not working your tail off!

Egg fillers for Older Kids and the “Tween” Kids:

  • Gift Cards- Many Stores like Starbucks have smaller cards that fit into eggs.
  • Eos Lip balm
  • Shopkins- Sold Individually at the Big Box Stores
  • Quarters or Dollars
  • Notes for activites- A chore free day, Movie Day with Dad, A trip to the Mall with Friends, stay up late!
  • Nail Polish
  • Erasers from the dollar area at a Big Box Store
  • Ear Buds for devices
  • Baseball Trading Cards

*We like to have some larger eggs available to allow for some variety in the goodies inside!

We love the free printable below for a take-away favor.  Add some Peeps, Chocolate and Graham Crackers for an Easter S’more!

Carrot Cake Pancakes are Delish!  We modified the recipe we used from Betty Crocker or you can prepare it as is from f their website.

Carrot Cake Pancakes

2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
2 cups shredded carrots (We like to make sure they are finely shredded)
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts (We like to add more than the recommendation- so we rec. 4 tablespoons of finely chopped walnuts)
2 tablespoons raisins
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
2 eggs

Cream Cheese Topping

4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Additional cinnamon, if desired (We always like to add more cinnamon!)
*Make the icing ahead of time to save a few minutes in the morning!

  • In large bowl, stir together all Pancake ingredients until just combined. Heat 10-inch or larger skillet or griddle over medium heat (325°F). Lightly brush with oil or butter.
  • Pour batter by slightly less than 1/4 cupfuls onto hot skillet. Cook until golden on bottom and bubbles form on top, about 3 minutes; turn, and cook another 2 minutes or until golden brown. Transfer to plate. Repeat with remaining batter.  (Our Tip- Use a Tortilla Warmer to keep your pancakes warm ready to be devoured!)
  • Beat cream cheese with electric mixer on high speed until fluffy, about 1 minute. Add powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat to combine.
  • Spoon cream cheese topping on top of warm pancakes. Sprinkle with a dash of cinnamon.  (If you made the day before, take it out to bring to room temperature.

Here is are more ideas to make you Easter Easy and Awesome!

Eggs are what we all remember about Easter!!! People are always trying to come up with new ways to decorate Easter Eggs and we wanted to find some cute ideas without necessarily taking on the mess of dyes.

We love any reason to brunch, especially when drinks are involved. Victoria found an amazing cocktail to pair with any Easter meal, and she added her own little spin to it. This cocktail is filled with champagne, Grenadine, and peach puree. Everyone knows you eat with your eyes first, and the same is true for drinking! So Victoria added some edible flowers for a fresh Spring touch.

To pair with that fabulous cocktail, we have an Easter take on a Cinnamon Roll. I don’t know about you, but this treat is a favorite for all of the kids I know! And turning the pastry into a cute bunny is super simple!

This tip has to be one of our favorites! This is the perfect thing for anyone who has old Easter decorations that have lost their brightness or have just become outdated. All you need is some Gloss Brown Spray Paint. Just give the decoration a layer or two of paint and Voila! it turns into chocolate! This is also a great little trick if you are trying to find some little decorations to put around the house. Just pick up some rabbits at a dollar store and you’re set! We tried it on this little rabbit egg holder and we think it looks good enough to eat 🙂

And lastly we have the perfect compromise of the good ole’ Peeps. They are the cutest treat and are SO classically Easter… BUT the sugar, oh man, the sugar. Well, here we have a new way to still display the sugary snack, but not ingest it! We chose to use the Peeps that are shaped like rabbits, just a preference, but you can use any you find. Then you have to use two different vases, one that will fit inside the other with space still left for the Peeps. Just stack them against the glass and put the flowers and water in the smaller vase!

Easy Ideas for Hosting a Holiday Cookie Swap

The Holidays seem to be busier than ever!  We have some Fun and Easy Ideas for Hosting a Holiday Cookie Swap. If you are someone out there that is not familiar with a cookie swap or cookie exchange let us fill you in!  A cookie exchange is just that…. you invite guests over and they bring one type or variety of cookie.  You swap your cookies and you end up with a delectable miscellanious group of sweets!

Imagine baking only one cookie and leaving with a beautiful assortment?  It is a time saver and you only buy the ingredients you need.  These festive images were captured by the ever talented photographer AND Baker Melissa from Melissa Jill Photography.

We like to provide labels for guests cookies.  These can be simple cards or even post it notes!  This will help with the voting process later.  Yes, voting = prizes (and bragging rights for next year!)

If being alone at home with several dozen cookies strikes fear in your heart and your waistband, we have the solution for you.  Have a packing station set up.  This allows our swappers to drop off fresh and delicious baked goods to friends, family or neighbors right away!  Ribbon, bags and tags are all you need.

My Cookie Swap can get pretty competitive!  We like to have ballots available for our guests to vote on their favorites.   You can put them head to head in a best of the best cookie contest! These Free Printables were shown on NBC’s Arizona Midday Segment and will get you set for your swap this year!

Free Printables here!

Other tips to make sure your cookie swap is easy and breezy:

  •  Host at “non- meal” times.  A 2 PM Party is perfect for some light snacks and libations.  It also gives any procrastinators time to bake that morning.
  • Always ask guests to bring an empty container.  This will allow them to fill their empty container with the other cookie varieties.  Less fuss and less mess!
  • We love to keep zip lock bags and Glad Press and Seal wraps available!  You never know who will need an extra bag or to cover their cookies.
  • Never throw a broken cookie away!  Ask your guests to bring any broken pieces to sample for the “best tasting” cookie contest.
  • Provide extra cake plates and other items for your guests to Jazz up their confections!  It is a nice touch and really dresses up any baked good.

I hope that these tips will help you host an Easy and Fun Cookie Swap!

Happy Baking!

Michelle and Brandon- Secret Garden Ceremony

Michelle and Brandon were married in March at the Arizona Biltmore.  I can honestly say that this is one of those weddings where we felt like a celebrity planner.  I had so many guests staying at the resort comment on how beautiful it was.  I even had some people film us as we were setting up.  Hollywood we are ready for our close up!

Michelle and Brandon’s inspired wedding was featured on the One Hundred Layer Cake blog, so we thought it would be great to showcase their wedding on the blog today! The bride and groom attended the University of Arizona, but did not end up meeting until they were both living in Los Angeles years later and set up by a friend.

Clearly Michelle knew her wedding was going to be breathtaking.  But she did want to keep it private.  A beautiful and private jewel of a wedding.

The Historic Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, Arizona was the perfect location for the Bride and Groom. The ceremony was inspired by the idea of a “secret garden”, and one of our goals was to make it as private as possible in such a public place. Michelle’s Mom is a talented interior designer (add that to uber organized) and was a perfect match to work with Victoria locally.

Michelle fell in love with the idea of incorporating greens to keep the look fresh and garden-esque.  An open air tent was created to farm the large chuppah with still allowing for the view of the Arizona Mountains.

The bougainvillea laying on top of the chuppah was one of our favorite details of the ceremony. Petal Pusher did an amazing job to weave all of the floral into the chuppah to achieve the organic and lush look that Michelle envisioned. This look is not easy to get and as Victoria always says, Tamara{with Petal Pusher} MUST have the strongest hands from all that spraying she does to keep the floral looking fresh and vibrant!

This program was another one of our favorites! Celebrations in Paper used the watercolor design and colors from their invitations to create this fold up program that was a secret in itself! Guests were able to learn more about the couple and, the traditions that filled the ceremony, and the best part…. it fits in a pocket or clutch!

The crest that was hanging at their ceremony was inspired by a crest created by Michelle’s Maid of Honor. The mountains behind the monogram symbolize the breathtaking Arizona backdrop of this couple’s special wedding destination. The two dogs represent Michelle and Brandon’s dog Nellie, there are two because animals are traditionally mirrored in crests. The three symbols above the crest are from the University of Arizona’s crest, where both Michelle and Brandon went to school. You can also find floral similar to the arrangements at the wedding, their wedding date, and a design bordering the top that is inspired by the architecture of the Arizona Biltmore.
